Need to install some security patches that are available for 8.1.7.4 only on a 64bit HP-UX box. Can I go straight to 8.1.7.4 or must I move from 8.1.7.2 to 8.1.7.3 first?

No need to follow every patch level between.

The 8.1.7.4.0 include all the bug fixes from the previous patches. So go ahead - install the 8.1.7.4.0. Of course, always read the README.html file first, for patch specific instructions.
