Hi,

Is it possible to connect a remote oracle database using ODBC from VB.

Is it necessary to install oracle on a computer running VB application?

Please help me in solving this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can connect to an Oracle database via ODBC.

To which version of Oracle database are you trying to connect?

Martin,

My oracle version is 8i.

And I want to globally access this database from different location from my VBA application. I don't want to install oracle client each & every place. is it possible & if yes then please guide me.

Thanks,
MEHUL

Go to http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/windows/odbc/index.html. This lists the various ODBC drivers for the various versions of Oracle. Near the top right corner is documentation on using the drivers.

If you are using ODBC driver, I don't believe it is possible to access remote server without installing Oracle client. Most of drivers I worked with communicate with OCI layer which requires you have Oracle client installed and defined server in your tnsnames.ora file.
